C-buz: What sparked the idea to do shows at the fork?
Ryan Hatton: I've always wanted to
have a bar in Columbus to support local and traveling bands the way bars
do in other towns. This town is overloaded with cover bands who are
playing mediocre covers of really bad songs. Since the Fork has
remodeled the restaurant last fall it has the perfect set up for doing
shows. It does help out that I've been working there the past three
years and try to pitch this idea to the owner Doug VanEpps everytime I
ask off to go to a show. I think it just took me awhile to get through
to him.
CB: Any plans to have them regularly? and if so, how often?
RH: We
plan to 2 shows a month coming up in May, possibly more. We might even
be hosting an open mic night and other events in the future.
“This isn't just a one time thing that we just decided to do for fun. This had been a long time effort going on since I was 15, and possibly even before that.”CB: Who all was involved in making it happen?
RH: So many people are involved in making these happen. I have some of the best friends supporting me every step of the way in this endeavor. This isn't just a one time thing that we just decided to do for fun. This had been a long time effort going on since I was 15, and possibly even before that. I want to thank the following people for all the help and support they've given me: Rex Sharpe, Doug VanEpps, Joe Land, Haskell Smith, Tyler Ott, Matt Rust, and many more.
how did the turnout compare to what you expected?
CB: There seemed to be a pretty big high-school crowd. do you think having more all-ages shows will bring in bigger crowds?
RH: I dunno if all-ages will help with having bigger crowds, but I like being able to keep these show all ages as long as possible. When I was in highschool I would have loved to be able to attend events such as these.
CB: Where did you do most of your promoting?
RH: You know from helping people with shows in this town for a long time I still don't know what is the best way to promote shows. We always hang up flyers around town in heavy foot traffic spots. The best way these days seems to be having a facebook account and making event pages. It definately makes a difference on promoting any event these days.
CB: How can someone get a spot to play at the show?
RH: We are welcome to any acts and will have a lot of spots to fill here soon. The best way is to contact me on my facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/ryanhatton86 or on my booking partner Rex sharpe at http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=825495450.
CB: Anything other thoughts?
RH: Hopefully with everyone's help we can keep these going. The possiblities are endless. Be sure to add http://www.facebook.com/pages/Fork-After-Dark/209172079093176 the Fork After Dark to your facebook. I'll see you at the next show.
